Words Matter. Use them Wisely.

In his eye-opening book, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘪𝘥𝘥𝘦𝘯 𝘔𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘞𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳, Dr. Masaru Emoto used high-speed photography to capture the crystalline structures of frozen water. What he discovered really got my attention:

• Water exposed to kind, loving words formed intricate, beautiful snowflake-like patterns.

• Water exposed to hateful or careless language became disordered, dull, and fragmented.

If a simple word can alter the structure of water - and our bodies are mostly water - what are our words doing to us, and to those around us?

This reminds me of the first of the four agreements in the bestselling book by Don Miguel Ruiz: Be impeccable with your word.

“The word is a force; it is the power you have to express and communicate, to think, and thereby to create the events in your life.” - Don Miguel Ruiz

Words carry energy. They can heal or harm. Invite connection or cause rupture. They are not neutral.

In our increasingly digital lives, words ripple faster and farther than ever. Trolling, shaming, and spiteful language may seem fleeting on a screen, but their residue lingers - spreading fear, anger and shame.

The digital realm is no less real than the physical one when it comes to the energy we put into it.

So what patterns are we creating with the tone, rhythm, and intent behind our words?

What shapes are our thoughts sending out - into our bodies, our homes, our conversations, our communities?

One of my favourite expressions is:

“𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻.”

The more conscious we are of that, the more intentional we can be with the kind of house we’re building - not just for ourselves, but for others too.
